OXO wall mounted shower caddy

The client loved the final project direction and they expressed there was lots of excitement in buyer meetings with how the product worked. The weight of the caddy resting on top of a wall would swing the arms to grip on the wall. Below are some of the development steps that lead to this design.

Early explorations

From initial brainstorms some concepts were explored through prototypes. Two categories of concepts were explored: Auto locking onto the wall vs a more manual connection.

With these quick prototypes the client and project team liked the low profile potential of the auto locking rotating arms. A more refined prototype was developed for user testing.

Refined prototypes

Low friction options were desired for the moving parts. As a first attempt/quick mock up for user testing an aluminum square bar was twisted for a minimal part screw action.

Design for manufacturing

The concept was further developed for DFM/DFA following the working prototype principals.
